PHILOSOPHY

"Do you know that our soul is composed by harmony"--leonardo da vinci (1452-1519)
From the moment I began to teach, I have received many of the same questions from the
parents who has young children. “What is the youngest age student that you accept into
your studio?” Honestly, as far as I can remember, I have lived in the world of music my
whole life. I began to study piano in my early childhood when I was three years old.
There is no age restriction for one who wants to play and to enjoy music. However, the
support from the parents is the key of making your kid’s music learning become joyful and
successful. Technically speaking, I am willing to accept any students who can count from
1 to 10 and read the English Alphabet from A to G. Most importantly , the parents need
to have the same music goal as the music teacher. I was brought up in a family that
owns a successful medicine business. Non of the member in my family studies about
music. But my parents brought me to the music lesson every week, Of course there
would have periods of time that I got lazy and lost in interested in practicing. However my
parents have insisted me on taking the music lesson continuously and consistently. As a
piano teacher, now I understand how much effort my parents had support me financially
and physically. Without their support I won’t be able to work on the profession that I have
love deeply. MUSIC is what makes one's life Colorful. And I also believe that learning to
play piano is the most rewarding investment of one's life time.
It is joyful and fun by taking piano lessons. However, to enjoy the fun learning
environment is not the only simple goal a piano teacher can provide to the students.
Music Fundamental Knowledge and Technique is what we emphasised the most in our
studio. Music study can be the most comfortable environment for anyone who wants to
improve their life Quality. Among all the instruments, piano is the most complicated built
instrument but the easiest to start playing with. It dose not require any special skill to
make noises out of a piano. However, to play piano with the colorful tone-qualities and to
further develop a good personal taste of the music will need lots of music fundamental
knowledge and practice to support.
It is always tempting (for both student and teacher) to show off the "hardest" or the
"latest" piece. In my experience, that is rarely a safe step. "Hard" pieces often demand
physical stamina that has not yet been developed, and the "latest" pieces often reveal a
student's not-too-deep understanding of the new playing technique and music concept.
That's true for students at any level. A student should perform the pieces that is
equivalent to his or her level of technique and understanding. However, we recently
found many students, who have learned piano for years, still do not have the
fundamental music knowledge and correct piano-playing techniques.
We understand that we, including parents, students and teachers as well, all have the
tendency of wanting to see the instant result after a lesson or two. However, unlike taking
a medication, Music is a continuous and consistent study process resulting with a life time
reward. You can get real joy and fun only if you invest the time and efforts practicing
every day and making the piano lesson consistent. All those effort will make you able to
bring joy of music to other people.
